Hello,

hello august

Hello August!

As we move into the heart of the summer, we're featuring a list of five key nutritional musts to benefit and improve your skin health.

August is the perfect time to start implementing these options into your diet with fresh fruits and veggies that are so plentiful in Michigan.

fresh fruits and veggies spilling out of grocery bagGLUTATHIONE – This is the body's master antioxidant (a natural detox agent) that can be found in avocados, spinach, asparagus, okra and broccoli. Our body’s natural production of glutathione decreases with age. Some people may want to consider taking a supplement.

POLYPHENOLS such as resveratrol help scavenge free radicals and prevents them from damaging your cells. Polyphenols can help protect against photoaging (premature aging of the skin caused by repeated exposure to UV radiation, primarily from the sun) and are found in herbs, green tea, coffee, dark green and purple veggies, and dark chocolate :)

COLLAGEN PROTEIN – Collagen decreases as we age and certain environmental stressors like UV rays and pollution also break the collagen bands. Collagen helps improve skin elasticity and hydration. We recommend our patients take a collagen supplement to augment our treatments which are almost all aimed at increasing collagen production to improve skin elasticity and health.

VITAMIN C helps to make collagen, is an anti-inflammatory and an antioxidant. Vitamin C is found in deeply colored veggies like leafy greens, cruciferous vegetables and red peppers as well as the typical citrus food sources.

CAROTENOIDS (lycopene & beta-carotene) neutralize free radicals and give our skin a healthy rosy hue. Carotenoids can be found in bright yellow, red, and orange foods like sweet potatoes, carrots, red peppers, oranges, mangos and watermelon.*

Chances are you already love and incorporate some of the above foods into your diet. But now is a good time to pick out a couple you don’t normally eat and add them to your regimen. Your skin will love you for it!
